The Percussion plays an essential role in any Chinese Ensemble performance.
It helps to keep the pace of music or lead the ensemble into a tempo change.
A typical Chinese Ensemble usually incorporates both traditional Chinese and Western percussion.
Examples of such instruments are the Triangle, Wood Blocks, Tambourine, Snare Drum, Timpani, Xylophone, Paigu and Cymbals.
It is common for Chinese Ensemble percussionists to be well versed in at least one or two percussion instruments.
